Scenes From The Moth House.

We are away in the north-west again, so this is a short post to let you see something I've been up to over the last little while.

It's a little place of photos and words. Of little vignettes and quiet corners from a place in my head, a place I call The Moth House. Of significant, and also small, happenings there, the wanderings and musings and sad reveries of its occupants, The Lovers.
You can visit it here: The Moth House.

I hope you like it!

When 'its' is possessive it doesn't take an apostrophe, and you can't start a sentence with 'of' or 'and'. Your content is nice but your grammar is severely lacking.

ignore Mr A Nony Mouse, don't let negativity squash your creativity!

Thank you for pointing out my typo(s). But I'm afraid I am far more interested in content than in grammatical correctness. So, while I may go back and correct my possessive' its', then again, maybe I won't.

And I can start my sentences with whatever word I like.

I do wonder what authority on grammar you are? Ah yes, but of course, you are Anonymous, aren't you? How very typical.

~*~ Valerie, never fear! I take great pride in the fact that I am not perfect. And also that I think Beauty and The Flow are far too important to be anal about them. Thank you dear, for your sweet words. C x ~*~

Of course you can start a sentence with 'Of'.

And just in case you are interested, I have perused a number of books from different eras that I have on my bookshelves and they all assure me that I can start a sentence with 'And' too.

I want to tell you your grammar is severely lacking but then I'd be stooping to your level.

You have to admit it though, grammar is important. Also, "And" can't start a sentance as it is a way to join sentances, not start them. Don't get offended, I'm just giving constructive critism. I'm an English lecturer so it's the kind of thing that I notice a lot, so don't think I'm being picky or anything. xx

I agree, Scissorshands, of course grammar is important. And I appreciate the way you give your constructive criticism.

But here I'll quote a friend who says it better than I did: "...you definitely can start a sentence with of. Offically not and, as it's a conjunctive, but... I like doing that - I think that everyone has decided it's ok. Same with But. And if they haven't, they should have! I find once you're writing in a conversational voice, none of that sort of thing matters."

The world might actually be boring if we did not have the odd (sic) anonymous carmudgeonly thought policeperson. One can visualise him/her/it, fingerless gloved digit moving over the text, diligently seeking out split infinitives, double negatives and (shock horror) stray apostrophes. It makes a change for anon. from writing to the Irish Times announcing the first cuckoo of the year. Such a blissful and fulfilling life.

If you want to get published in an academic journal maybe you should attempt to conform to the (constantly changing) rules of English grammar. But English is a living language and adaptive to the needs of writers. And while a "proper" sentence may not start with a conjunction (though most grammarians say it is now acceptable), a thought certainly can. And who is to say where thoughts begin and end.

I think Ciara's writing is perfect for her purpose and audience. There is a lyricism to it that would not exist if she was hampered by every archaic, random or evolving rule of the English language. She has control over it, and that's what is important.

I notice that pedants are usually not the most creative people.

AND i think your site is pulchritudinous, beautiful and dazzling.
Looking through your pictures brought a lump to my throat as i have spend childhood summers there!
AND always remember the 'quarters' off the kitchen, (is it still there?) that was my 'room'.... :-D

Of all the places in the world, yours is top 5 on my fav memories list and you have impressed me capturing your world for us. I look again and again at them!

AND for the people who felt the need to criticize AT ALL on a fluffy, heart swelling, blogger which is supposed to be conversation and not an exam on grammer, are odviously bored and infinitesimel nincompoops! Imagine we all talked like we are supposed to write, that would be shockingly boring!

Well done again Ciara, you are a gift to us all!

Love from yer fellas cousin Sarah X
